Dr Marie-Camille Pitton, Secretary-General of the CARO Center, attended the United Nations Annual Forum on Business and Human Rights held in Geneva at the Palais des Nations from November 25 to 27, 2024.
The Caribbean branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) hosted its fifth triennial conference from October 15 to October 17, 2024, focusing on the theme “Paths to Peace: Evolving Trends in Dispute Resolution”.
The Secretary-General of the CARO Center, Marie-Camille Pitton, attended the 49th session of Working Group III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law held in Vienna from September 23 to 27, 2024, to represent the ACP Legal association, which has Observer status in this context.
We are pleased to announce that the OHADAC Regional Arbitration Center (CARO Centre) is now registered on the list of mediators of the Basse Terre Court of Appeal. This registration marks an important milestone in CARO's commitment to promoting amicable methods of dispute resolution.
The University of the West Indies, Fouillole Campus in Guadeloupe, organized an international symposium which took place on the 8th and 9th of February, 2024, on the theme “The Attractiveness of Business Law, the 21st Century Enterprise”. This event was sponsored by the Henri Capitant Association and organized under the auspices of the Center for Research in Economics and Law of Insular Development (CREDDI) under the scientific direction of Brigitte Facorat-Gaspard, Senior Lecturer in private law at the University of the West Indies, Guadeloupe pole, and head of the Master 2 business law program.
The workshop was co-organized in partnership with the Bar Association of Saint Lucia and the LEGAL PRO TECH law firm, based in Guadeloupe and Martinique. The main objective was to provide French business leaders with a clearer understanding of the legal issues essential for the successful development of their projects in Saint Lucia (e.g., taxation, corporate law, labor law, intellectual property, etc.).
The Secretary-General of the CARO Center first traveled to St. Martin to attend the 17th Conference on Regional Cooperation for the Caribbean and French Guiana, which took place from April 23 to 25, 2024, in St. Martin, with the theme “Seizing Opportunities and Strengthening Synergies”.
The working group consists of representatives from States who are working to redefine the legal framework governing mechanisms for disputes between investors and States, through the development of ethical charters, guidelines, and principles, the creation of new institutions, and the development of new international instruments that will be binding on all States that ratify them.
The CARO Centre team is delighted to announce that its new “Conflict Management Committee” service has been nominated for the 2024 GAR Awards, in the “Innovation” category.
We are very pleased to announce that the new service created by the CARO Centre, the “Conflict Management Committee” or “CMC”, has been listed since the end of January 2024 on the website of Working Group III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, in the context of its work on the prevention of investment disputes.
