Representation of ACP Legal Association at the 49th Session of Working Group III of UNCITRAL, Vienna, from September 23 to 27, 2024

The Secretary-General of the CARO Center, Marie-Camille Pitton, attended the 49th session of Working Group III of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law held in Vienna from September 23 to 27, 2024, to represent the ACP Legal association, which has Observer status in this context.
The ACP Legal association was also represented by the following individuals:
- Veronika KOROM, Assistant Professor in the International Trade and Arbitration department at ESSEC, Solicitor, lawyer at the Paris Bar and the Budapest Bar (Hungary), member of the ICC Court of Arbitration
- Rafael Gil NIEVAS, Lawyer at the Madrid Bar (Spain) and Attorney at law (New York), former Deputy Legal Adviser for the Spanish government, and former General Counsel for CEPSA.
Working Group III of UNCITRAL consists of representatives of States and organizations gathered to develop the reform of investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS), by drafting new codes of conduct, draft directives, creating new institutions such as the Advisory Centre on Dispute Resolution, and preparing a multilateral instrument on the reform of investor-State dispute settlement, which will replace the current legal framework with the achievements of the reform.
During the proceedings of the 49th session, the following draft texts were discussed by the delegates from the various States represented, as well as by the representatives of observer organizations:
- Draft Statute of a Standing Mechanism for ISDS (1);
- Draft Procedural Rules and Provisions on Cross Cutting Issues (2);
- Draft Multilateral Instrument on ISDS Reform (3).
The next session of UNCITRAL Working Group III will take place in Vienna from January 20 to 24, 2025.
