Presentation of the OHADAC Regional Arbitration Centre (CARO) during the event entitled “Innovation and Management within the Southern Basse-Terre region businesses“, 12-13 February 2020, Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe

The team in charge of implementing the OHADAC project has been invited by the CCIIG, Basse-Terre office in Guadeloupe on 13 February 2020 to attend an event entitled “Innovation and Management within the Southern Basse-Terre region businesses“, in order to present the future OHADAC Regional Arbitration and Mediation Centre (CARO). The presentation was ensured by Solène BALAGUETTE, an International Business Lawyer.
The ACP legal association team has been invited by “Guadeloupe 1ère“ channel, to present a preview of the OHADAC project with the opening of the new CARO Centre during the 1 p.m. television news broadcast live on Wednesday February 12th.
The event has gathered representatives coming from business communities of the Southern Basse-Terre region in order for them to present their project (s), their implementation as well as the given opportunities and tools needed for economic and commercial development within the said region.
Various business leaders participated to share their experiences and their own examples of success stories.
Dr Rose-Lee RAQUI, PHD in International relations, lectured about lobbying practices or how to foster territorial financing towards a pilot project in the Southern Basse-Terre region.
Ms Isabelle GOITCOM, Project Director, talked about Digital Mediation for Economic and Social development (MENADEVE) and third place project fostering creative interaction within companies.
Mr William ESON and Mr Laurent MAIRESSE, Business leaders, illustrated the influence of tourism industry in the Southern Basse-Terre region, with the re-opening of the Saint Georges Hotel located in Saint-Claude.
The objective of the legal contribution was to introduce the future CARO Centre while explaining its purpose based on the integration within the Caribbean economic area called OHADAC zone and present both mediation and arbitration which are essential tools. The services provided by the Centre were later described while highlighting on the need of a “tailored“ and a matter of urgency to develop this tool that is to say less expensive and more suited to the businesses economic needs and realities of the Southern Basse-Terre region and in Guadeloupe.
The diversity of the speakers allowed to better understand the challenges at stake in this second phase of the OHADAC project and the necessity to implement mediation and arbitration proceedings for the type of companies found in the Southern Basse-Terre region and moreover in Guadeloupe. Great interest was expressed in particular for the use and support of mediation tools as well as for “projects“ destined to be presented to different economic stakeholders in Guadeloupe and the Caribbean.
