The CARO Centre was invited to present its activities during a webinar organized by Synergîles on March 30.

Synergîles is an innovation hub that specializes in energy and ecological transition, serving as an interface between the technical, scientific and institutional spheres in these fields. As a fully fledged, ground-breaking organization, the hub acts as a catalyst for developing the innovation potential of companies and key actors in the region. The hub is a partner of the Capénergies and Qualitropic centres of competitive excellence. Synergîles is a non-profit association under the French Law of 1901.

The hub has around 60 members, based in - or with business in - Guadeloupe, Martinique or Guyana, and in line with its areas of expertise.

The speakers were as follows:

• Denis Lesueur, chair of the board of directors of the LORET Group, chair of the Economic Foresight and Regional Cooperation Committee at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Islands of Guadeloupe (CCIIG), made the introductory remarks. He presented the OHADAC project, stressing the region's isolation, which limits commercial possibilities and innovative projects. He also highlighted the vital need for harmonization in business law in the Caribbean region and the advantages of using the CARO Centre.
• Maître Elisabeth Calonne, a lawyer at the Bar of Guadeloupe, St Martin and St Barthélemy and mediator, shared her mediation experience. Based on her experience, mediation is "a sideways shift" that opens up opportunities for the contracting parties. There are numerous benefits to mediation: it can be used to organize and structure a business plan and to make relations between co-contractors or partners run more smoothly. In addition, if a dispute does develop, it can help to "take the heat" out of the situation and find solutions that will suit each of the parties.
• Maître Karine Linon, a lawyer at the Bar of Guadeloupe, St Martin and St Barthélemy and mediator, highlighted the advantages of using arbitration in light of her participation in arbitration proceedings in Guadeloupe based on OHADAC texts. According to Maître Linon, arbitration is an effective tool that offers the parties a high degree of confidentiality, as well as cost and time control.
• Marie-Camille Pitton, secretary general of the CARO Centre, presented the Centre's range of services, stressing the importance of anticipation and legal security when developing international projects. She highlighted the "tailor-made", fast, lower-cost and controlled nature of the services offered by the CARO Centre. These services are designed to support the entire life cycle of a project through the use of various tools such as expert assessment, facilitation, mediation and arbitration.
• Emily Guyon, head of Mission Innovation at Synergîles, hosted and moderated the webinar, together with questions from the public.
